Yesterday was the first day of fall and while I am sad to say goodbye to summer, I am ready to welcome this beautiful season. Let’s face it, fall is the time of year to bust out the flannel shirts…YAY! The weather is perfect for gathering around a bonfire, carving a pumpkin, and jumping in a pile of leaves (if your child-like heart is so inclined). It’s the season for wearing chunky sweaters and pulling on tall boots to enjoy the burst of colors that autumn offers.
The house we bought last spring is situated on a hill, nestled among several mature trees. Although it is located in a neighborhood, the setting offers a sense of privacy and tranquility. The feature I enjoy most about the exterior of our house is the front porch. It’s the perfect place to enjoy the true beauty of this season. Relaxing on the cozy porch swing while sipping pumpkin spiced tea (with French vanilla creamer of course) is a great way to enjoy the sights and sounds of fall. Sounds like the perfect way to spend an autumn afternoon, don’t ya think?
Knowing that fall was fast approaching, I was over-the-moon excited to decorate the front porch. You see, when we bought this house last spring, we knew it had good bones. However, we realized some renovations were in order (interior and exterior) to make it our own.
The before picture (below) shows how the stained cedar siding did not allow the trim to stand out. The updated paint colors showcase the architecture of the home and I couldn’t be more happy! Bright white trim against dark gray paint make my heart go pitter-patter. I’ll share more before pictures later…
While decorating the porch, my first goal was to make this space an extension of our home. I hoped to create a warm and inviting spot for friends and family to gather, share laughter, and create memories.
I will outline how I created this “budget friendly” front porch in future posts. I always try to include sensory details in my design. These little details evoke childhood memories, and for me, a little nostalgia is just the inspiration needed to create memories anew. I hope you feel the same way.
